OK so after I browsed around Japanese fanart sites from various newer fandoms, I decided to challenge myself ever more. This time I am experimenting with color. I wanted to challenge myself with more subtle coloring...my weakness (-o-;) I also have a bad habit of over-emphasizing outlines so I wanted to work on it. Clear outlines and crisp colors are fine for anime style, but as an analog fanartist, one of my goals is to express what can only be enjoyed in analog fanarts. This one started out really good but I caught myself trying to thicken outlines every which way, therefore having to over-color it to match, and I had to stop myself in the middle of my bad habit loop eventually \(=_=;;)/ Bad hands, baaaaaad! Oh well...this is just one of my first experiment with color, so hopefully I get better at it next time. Control, ASIA, control! ~\(-o-)/~
Edit: tsuki_bug wrote a nice ficlet to go with it. Thanks! (^_^)
1) Since this is analog art, do the same pic means manually copying down the pic to several different papers. And by doing so the pic won't come out exactly the same way anyways (will have slightly different feel), so I rather start out fresh, thought the theme may stay the similar.
2) I think analog. Which means I draw line art then decide what color I like the best with it. Or I pick the color first and draw what I feel that fits to the color. They are inter-connected in my mind and so my mind doesn't work to use the same art for different color. It is an exercise but also in the same time my usual sketch too, so... (^o^)/"
Oh my god! It's gorgeous!!! I absolutely love it! *hugs it* I think I'm in love.... Hahahaha! I think for your first 'color experiment' it turned out fantastic. Keep it up babes! I love it all!
I like it, a lot. It looks so soft and subtle. I also like the way you used shades of one color for the whole thing, except for their eyes. That's a nice effect.
Yes, I know I never comment, but I enjoy your art extremely. I think you have a talent to capture the faces and expressions like hardly any other artist I've seen out there.
And yes, I love this picture as well, especially Heero's tender expression.
And don't beat yourself up by comparing yourself to other artists. You're doing great! :-)
ohh~~ this is gorgeous. you're right, there's something about analog art that will always be just an extra bit special. but i think even the way you draw/colour normally is very distinctive in terms of showing off the minute details of analog art.
ah well~ i shall always admire people who can colour/shade well and so, dearest ASIA, you will always be right up there on that pedestal for me. haha~~
OOoh trust me there are many out there that have just unimaginable talent! (@o@) There are so many new techniques we can all steal learn from....HOHOHOHOHO (^o^)/"
They are all sun kissed. ^___^ Makes me imagine that they're watching a sunrise together. I love how the coloring makes the eyes so vibrant and attention getting. Lovely experiment!
Very nice. Lovely. It's just how they would appear bathed in the light of a sunset. My one suggestion is that you add just a hint more bronze to Heero's hair. His hair would still show as subtly darker, even in the overwash of light.
You are one of the better artists I've come across. I admit that I don't spend any time scanning the Japanese sites. Not speaking (reading) Japanese makes it difficult. But, among the English sites, you're one of the few artists I see actively working to improve an already good technique and style.
I would try to recruit you for art shows at scifi conventions where I live, I just don't know that we have a big enough GW fandom to provide you with the audience (sales) I would like to see your art have.
I thought about darkening Heero's hair little bit more but that was going to trigger another whole set of coloring loop so I deliberately stopped myself from doing it, keeping both of them in the same color tone. That's part of my control exercise... (^o^;)
I think many artists get in the depressed or slump mode occasionally (and that's normal) but I think keep working at it is the only way to get out of that stage, so I do... The way I look at it is that if I am too happy with what I draw last month I haven't really progressed. So that's ok to feel down on my art a little bit (^o^)
What is an art show in conventions? I have heard of it before but I have no idea what it is. I doubt SciFi convention would have too many fans for manga style though (^o^;)
Am I good or bad, you gotta make up your mind (^o^)/" Or am I extremely goodly bad and badly good? \(^o^)/ Err a sunset will be nice...at least they would be alive then *LOL*
I always wanted to try monochrome...this has little more than 1 color though, I think I used 3 excluding their eye color. I want to try couple more different color theme. (^o^)

Wow, I love it! It's very different from everything else I've seen from you so far and...well, they glow! I love that! I also love Duo's hair. And the fact that only their eyes are not made of a golden color was a very nice touch ;D
I looks really nice. I like the few hard lines you did do. They emphasise (sp) the eyes and brows perfectly. The collar bones and shirt details are excellent too. Great pic all round.
